Hopkins Crossroad Trail Project updates archive
- The trail is complete and open to the public.
- Mail boxes were installed this morning.
- Crews are wrapping up some final, minor items.
- Railings are being manufactured for the retaining walls and installation is expected in the spring.

- Hennepin County will be completing a mill and overlay of Hopkins Crossroad to resurface the entire roadway in the summer of 2025.

- Grading and excavation work on the city's driveway west of Hopkins Crossroad near Cedar Hills Drive continues. Anticipate increased truck traffic in the area as this work is completed.
- Retaining wall staining will occur over the next several weeks. Ornamental railings for the walls are being manufactured with installation expected for next spring/summer.
Aug. 30, 2024
- The majority of the trail paving and street patching was completed this past week.
- A short segment of trail paving on Hillside Lane West near Tanglen Elementary will be finished next week.
- The trail has a few areas of concrete work and pedestrian ramps remaining which will be completed next week.
- Grading and excavation work on the city’s driveway west of Hopkins Crossroad near Cedar Hills Drive will occur over next couple weeks. Please anticipate increased trucking in this area while they complete this work.
- Restoration work with seeding and sod continues.
- Signs will be installed after the restoration is complete.
- Final roadway striping is currently scheduled for the week of Sept. 16.
- The contractor is currently installing topsoil and finishing grading.
- The contractor will finish paving the remaining trail sections (including Hillside) the week of Aug. 26.
- Other remaining work includes seeding and sod, sign installation and roadway striping.
- Hillside Lane is closed for retaining wall construction and pavement restoration.
- Crews are working on final trail prep work, trail paving scheduled for Aug. 14 and 15. Driveways and intersections will be paved during this period as well.
- Once the trail is paved, final restoration will begin.
- Traffic on Hopkins Crossroad will be reopened to both northbound and southbound traffic on Thursday evening, Aug. 1.
- Retaining wall work on Hillside Lane is scheduled for the week of Aug. 5. Once this work is complete, curb and gutter and bituminous patching will begin on Hillside Lane.
- Trail grading continues with trail paving anticipated the week of Aug. 12, weather permitting.
- Concrete work remains on Hopkins Crossroad. It should be completed next week.
- Hennepin County has a mill and overlay project scheduled for 2025 to resurface the entire roadway.
- The road will remain closed to local southbound traffic only (no northbound traffic) until sometime next week when the road will be reopened back to two-way traffic (both directions). Please stay tuned for updates.

- Concrete curb and gutter work along Hopkins Crossroad was completed this week. There is still retaining wall and curb and gutter to be installed on Hillside Lane West; this work should occur in couple of weeks.
- Crews are currently patching the asphalt adjacent to the new curb.
- Residents with new curb in front of their residence will be able to get back into their driveway by Saturday evening.
- The posted detour directs traffic to Cedar Lake Road, Hwy 169 and Interstate 394. The detour will remain in place until the road is reopened back to two-way traffic next week. Thank you again for your patience while we complete this work.
Clarification: Local Southbound Traffic Only, No Northbound Traffic During Closure
- Phase 5: Hopkins Crossroad will reopen to local southbound traffic only beginning this evening, July 19. The remainder of the project corridor between Wayzata Boulevard and Cedar Lake Road will remain closed. There will be NO northbound traffic during this closure. All vehicles must travel south towards Cedar Lake Road.

- This setup, for local southbound traffic only, will be in place for approximately the next week while the contractor completes curb installation, patching, and trail preparation.

- Phase 4: Storm sewer installation between Joy Lane and Oak Knoll Terrace South is on schedule for completion. Road patching will continue on Friday.
- Phase 5: Starting on Friday night, July 19, the entire project corridor of Hopkins Crossroad from Cedar Lake Road to Wayzata Blvd. will be Closed to Local Southbound Traffic Only.

- Phase 2 closure for the storm sewer crossing will begin tomorrow morning, July 16. – Full road closure on Hopkins Crossroad from north of Cedar Hills Boulevard to just south of Overlook Drive.
- Cedar Hills Drive neighborhood access will be available from the south using Cedar Hills Boulevard.
- Phase 3: Later Tuesday, July 16 – Full road closure on Hopkins Crossroad from north of Fetterly Road West to south of Hillside Lane West.

- Hopkins Crossroad will closed to through traffic beginning Monday, July 15. This closure is necessary to complete installation of the storm sewer that crosses underneath Hopkins Crossroad.
- Access to homes and driveways will remain throughout the closure.
- Traffic control will be installed for the local streets indicating closures and detours.
- This is a moving closure, meaning certain segments will be completely closed and changing/ moving as work progresses.
- Phase 1: Monday morning, July 15 – Full road closure on Hopkins Crossroad from Cedar Lake Road to just south of Cedar Hills Drive.

- Wednesday, April 24 beginning at 10 p.m. and ending Thursday, April 25 at 6 a.m.

- Zayo will be performing night work on Monday, March 18 beginning at 10 p.m. and ending Tuesday, March 19 at 5 a.m. Due to service impacts to businesses and residential customers, night work is required.

- The Hopkins Crossroad Trail project is on the city council's Aug. 28 meeting agenda. The council will be considering a resolution authorizing easement acquisition proceedings.
- Xcel Energy continues to install new power lines and transformer boxes along Hopkins Crossroad.
- Additional private utility installation is anticipated to ramp up over the next few weeks.

Council will review the project feasibility study, Xcel Energy agreement to bury overhead power lines, and consider moving forward with the final design.
