UPDATE: Registration for the Oct. 12 catalytic converter marking event is full. Marking kits are available for pick up during normal business hours in the police department lobby, 14600 Minnetonka Blvd. These kits can be installed by residents without specialized tools or equipment. Mechanics may also install the kits for a fee.
This October, Minnetonka police and public works departments are teaming up to deter the increasingly common theft of catalytic converters.
During the catalytic converter marking event, the city will use special stickers and etching paint to mark converters with unique identification numbers. The marking kits are provided through a state program administered by the Department of Commerce. Spots are limited; registration is required.
