Beginning June 1, 2024, use of the yard waste site will be limited to Minnetonka residents only. Commercial tree and lawn contractors are not allowed to dispose brush and yard waste (including logs, stumps, leaves, grass clippings and brush) even if it came from a Minnetonka property.

Minnetonka Public Works (11522 Minnetonka Blvd.) accepts brush, leaves and yard waste from Minnetonka residents at the following times:

Brush: April to the Saturday before Thanksgiving
Leaves and yard waste: Spring and Fall

Please note that the yard waste site is closed for holidays, including Labor Day, Independence Day and Veterans Day.

Residency required

Residents will be asked to present a driver’s license, state ID or Minnetonka utility bill.
Through May 2024, commercial tree or lawn services must prove materials came from a Minnetonka address. After June 1, contractors will no longer be allowed to dispose yard waste and brush at the facility.

Acceptable: Trees and branches up to eight feet in length (no diameter restrictions)
Unacceptable: Stumps, dirt, sod, trash, metal, plastics, concrete lumber, fences or wood scraps

Backyard composting

Curbside collection

Most garbage haulers offer curbside collection of yard waste for a fee. Collection programs typically run mid-April through mid-November. Check with your garbage hauler for details.

Compostable bag requirements

If your garbage hauler provides yard waste carts, it’s best to place materials inside the carts loose, without bags.

Compostable bags are not recyclable. Do not put them in your recycling cart.
