Internships

At the City of Minnetonka, our internship program focuses on preparing you for future success.

Our interns have the opportunity to use their unique talents to contribute to the team. They receive hands-on training and experience while working in a positive and engaging workplace and building connections with co-interns, employees and supervisors.

Interns are typically enrolled in an academic program or recently graduated.

Assessing

Assist the assessing division with its quintile, a five-year review of all city properties. Learn how to complete inspections independently with our residential appraisers.

Property assessment techniques: Understand the principles behind property valuation, including market comparison, income approach and cost approach.
Legal and regulatory compliance with local, state and federal laws and regulations.

Civil Engineering

Assist the engineering division with projects related to construction inspection, traffic, mapping, data collection, streets, utilities and sidewalks.

Project management: Planning, scheduling and coordination.
Field work and inspections: Conduct site visits and field inspections; assess and report on the condition of infrastructure; and understand compliance with codes and regulations.
Documentation and reporting: Assist with the preparation of technical reports, project documentation and presentations.

Diversity, Equity and Inclusion

Contribute to the development and implementation of initiatives that foster a culture of inclusivity within our organization.

Research best practices in DEI: Analyze current diversity metrics and identify areas for improvement.
Training and education: Support the development and delivery of an internal training program.
Community engagement: Build partnerships with external organizations and assist with organizing and promoting events that celebrate diversity and raise awareness.
Collaboration: Integrate DEI principles into organizational policies and practices.

GIS

Police

Experience both the patrol and investigative aspects of law enforcement.

Law enforcement procedures, including traffic stops, arrests, report writing.
Community policing: Develop skills in community engagement and relationship-building.
Emergency response: Observe and possibly participate in emergency response situations while learning about crisis management, de-escalation techniques and first aid.
Criminal investigations: Observe and possibly assist in evidence collection, crime scene processing and forensic procedures.
Case file management: Experience in managing case files and organizing evidence.
Legal and ethical considerations: Gain an understanding of legal and ethical considerations in criminal investigations.
