The City of Minnetonka awards preference to qualified veterans and spouses of deceased or disabled veterans, subject to the provisions of applicable Minnesota statute.

Eligibility

To qualify for preference, you must have served on active duty in any branch of the armed forces of the United States, have been honorably discharged, and be a citizen or resident alien of the United States. The military service must be certified by the United States secretary of defense as active military service and a discharge under honorable conditions must be issued by the secretary. Veteran’s preference may be used by the surviving spouse of a deceased veteran and by the spouse of a disabled veteran who, because of the disability, is unable to qualify.

Complete the Veteran’s Preference section in the employment application to claim veteran’s preference. Please include supporting documentation.

Awarding Preference

Veteran’s preference is awarded in the selection process if:

  • The applicant has completed the veteran’s preference sections of the employment application,
  • The applicant meets the minimum qualifications,
  • Supporting documentation is provided, and
  • The claim for preference is approved.

Supporting Documentation Required

  • Veterans: Copy of DD214 or DD215, or other documentation verifying service.

  • Disabled Veterans: Copy of DD214 or other documentation verifying service AND USDVA letter of a compensable disability rating decision.

  • Spouses of Deceased Veterans: Copy of DD214 or DD215, or other documentation verifying service, photocopy of marriage certificate, spouse’s death must be submitted to receive points. You are ineligible to receive points if you have remarried or were divorced from the veteran.

  • Spouses of Disabled Veterans: Copy of DD214 or DD215, or other documentation verifying service AND USDVA letter of a compensable service connected disability rating decision.

Documentation must be received by the application deadline of the posting in order to be considered. Attach the documentation to your application or submit it to:
