The Minnetonka Police Department has had an impartial policing policy in place for more than 20 years. This policy is intended to reaffirm our department’s commitment to unbiased policing and assure the public we are providing service and enforcing laws in a fair and equitable manner to all.
In April 2021, the department began collecting race and gender data on specified incidents to get a more accurate picture of whom our officers come into contact with on a daily basis. The department will soon begin collecting benchmark data (e.g., traffic crashes) for comparison. According to data collection experts, data that reflects demographics of people travelling through the community provides a better basis of comparison than census data, which only includes information about the 53,781 residents who live in Minnetonka. However, each day an additional 84,000 people visit Minnetonka that would not be accounted for under a direct comparison with available census data.
The interactive dashboard includes all data collected as part of this program. The purpose of this dashboard is to allow the public access to explore the data points collected by the Minnetonka Police Department.
