Minnetonka's annual tree and shrub sale has closed for the season. Orders are scheduled to be available for pick up in September.

Every year trees are lost to storms, disease and pests, including emerald ash borer, oak wilt and Dutch elm disease. Replacing them Heat map_2023 with diverse young trees makes Minnetonka's natural environment more resilient to future challenges.

Since 2007, Minnetonka residents have purchased more than 19,000 trees and shrubs at a reduced cost. To help everyone enjoy the benefits, the city's tree and shrub sale is conducted as a lottery, which prioritizes planting in neighborhoods that experience higher summer temperatures, shown in red on the map. Residents in those areas are eligible to place orders one week before the general sale opens.

Minnetonka's annual tree sale is funded in part by the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources ReLeaf grant program which is designed to enhance community forest health across our state.

How does the lottery work?

Any Minnetonka resident may register for the lottery (open April 1-26). Early ordering will be available to lottery applicants who live in the target areas.

Not sure if your property is in a target area? Register for the lottery, just in case.
If selected for early ordering, you’ll receive a code to access the sale website on May 1.
If stock remains available as of May 13, the sale will open to all residents.

In addition to trees and shrubs, this sale offers tree guards ($3), tree watering bags ($20) and home composting bins ($76), while supplies last."

2024 tree sale list

How much do the trees cost, and how many can I purchase?

Containerized tree: $50 each
Shrub duos and trios, other special units: $50 each
Bare-root trees: $25 each

This is a significant discount compared to retail.

Each single-family dwelling is eligible to purchase up to two items: two trees, two special units or one of each.
Do you own more than one Minnetonka property? You may purchase for up to two addresses.
