Hennepin County Deconstruction Grant: Deconstruction is using techniques to salvage materials from destruction, alteration, or renovations projects. Property owners can receive up to $5,000 to help offset the time and labor costs associated with deconstruction.

Businesses

Businesses can receive up to $10,000 to help offset the time and labor costs associated with deconstruction.

Organizations

Organizations can receive up to $10,000 to help offset the time and labor costs associated with deconstruction.

In just under a year and a half, Minnetonka has collected more than 7,000 pounds of recyclable plastic. That work earned the city three benches made of recycled plastic from the Trex Company. Find them at the front entrance of The Marsh. 

Minnetonka has paused it's participation in the NexTrex program, however, you can continue to bring recycled plastic to the following locations:

About a third of our trash is organic materials (food scraps, paper towels, coffee grounds and more) that can be composted (Organics Recycling Guide).

Residents

• Free Compostable Bags and Containers: The City of Minnetonka has a limited supply of free compostable bags and kitchen containers. Stop by Public Works at 11522 Minnetonka Blvd. to get a container and 25 compostable bags.
• Curbside Organic Recycling: Residents can sign up for curbside organics through their waste hauler.
• Recycling Drop-off Center: The Recycling Drop-off Center at Minnetonka Public Works (11522 Minnetonka Blvd.) is open 24/7 and accepts both recyclables and organics. Visit the Recycling Drop-off Center to learn more about operation hours, acceptable materials.

Businesses and organizations

• Hennepin County Grants: Hennepin County has grants available for:
  • Business recycling containers and compostable bags to start or improve recycling and/or organics recycling at small businesses or nonprofit organizations.
  • Innovative business waste prevention projects. Areas of focus can include prevention of food waste, reuse and recovery of goods and materials, and development and use of recovered products.
• Curbside Organic Recycling: Contact your licensed Minnetonka hauler about signing up for organics recycling.

Hennepin County Fix-It Clinics

Hennepin County offers free, guided assistance from volunteers with repair skills to disassemble, troubleshoot and repair small household items. Find out about upcoming events at Hennepin County's website.

• MNimize site waste assessments are FREE to the customer and include a $500 single-use plastic reduction rebate. The program is funded by between Hennepin County and the MN Chamber of Commerce’s Minnesota Waste Wise Foundation.
• Participation in the program will help businesses learn how to reduce their waste, research compostable materials alternatives, and access additional funding to reduce their upfront costs of transitioning from plasticware.

The City of Minnetonka offers on-site composting at the city's recycling drop-off center.

Recycling

Special Drop-off Day

Twice a year, Minnetonka offers a special drop-off day. Bulk items can be disposed for a small fee. Those items are disposed properly, recycled or donated if possible.
