Bren Road Water Tower Reconditioning

The City of Minnetonka’s water tower located at Bren Road and Vista Drive, just south of Lone Lake Park, is being reconditioned in 2018-19 to protect water quality and the city’s investment in the tank, and to improve the look of the tower.

April 3, 2019 project update

The final stages of the water tower reconditioning project will take place in April–May. The anticipated timeline is:

April 22: Pressure washing begins
April 29 – May 4: Draining the tank
May 6 – 24: Final painting

The timeline is weather dependent and subject to change.

Project updates

Painting process

Crews will remove current paint layers via sandblasting – which can be noisy – and repaint with three new layers of paint and primer. To keep dust and particles contained, large coverings, or curtains, will be set up around the towers. Sandblasters and air compressors will be used to clean and repaint the tower.

The project has been approved by the Minnesota Department of Health, and there are no hazardous materials or lead paint involved.

All equipment and vehicles will keep to city property and the private drive to the water tower. The contractor will not use Vista Drive or the cul de sac for parking or equipment storage.

Timeline and schedule

July 23 – Nov. 9, 2018
- Late July – Mid September: Paint removal (sandblasting)
- September: New paint
- Late September – Early November: Final touch-ups and clean-up
Spring 2019
- April 22: Pressure washing begins
- April 29 – May 4: Draining the tank
- May 6 – 24: Final painting
Work schedule
- Monday – Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m.
- Saturdays, only if needed, 8 a.m. – 4 p.m.
