The owner of 1809 Welland Ave. approached city staff to inquire if the city would be interested in purchasing his property and a nearby, inherited property at 10505 Belmont Road. The owner is interested in selling to the city to provide opportunities for new families to live in Minnetonka. Staff views these parcels as an opportunity to complete an innovative rehabilitation or rebuild the homes to create long-term, affordable single-family ownership or lease opportunities.

Next Steps

After purchasing the two properties, staff will study options for the properties. The process will include neighborhood feedback. The end goal is to sell the properties to a single-family home builder with affordable housing experience. 

Any future decisions on the properties must be reviewed and approved by the EDAC and city council.
