Crime prevention is a collaborative effort between the Minnetonka Police Department and the city’s residents and businesses.

How to report a crime

Always call 911 in the event of an emergency or to report a crime or suspicious behavior.

If it is not an emergency, call the police department at 952-939-8510.

Curfew

The City of Minnetonka has a curfew ordinance for children under 18, which is the same as Hennepin County’s ordinance.

Children under 18 must abide by the following curfews. Those in violation could be charged with a petty offense. The curfew applies to all public places, and does have some exceptions, such as going to or from work or a school activity.

Under 12	9 p.m.	10 p.m.
12, 13, 14	10 p.m.	11 p.m.
15, 16, 17	11 p.m.	12 a.m.

Domestic violence

If you or someone you know is a victim of actual or threatened domestic violence, call 911.

Additional resources to help victims of domestic violence include:

Serves people who are victims of actual or threatened domestic violence, including assistance with obtaining an order for protection, civil and criminal court processes and referrals to other services

Advocates for victim safety, supports the transition from victim to survivor and educates for the prevention and elimination of domestic violence

Mail theft

Minnetonka police have responded to numerous reports of mail theft. Residents should exercise caution when mailing items from residences and unsecured mailboxes. Thieves specifically target residential mailboxes with the flag up.

Take the following precautions, especially when mailing checks:

Mail items from a post office
Mail items from a secure blue postal service box
Personally hand sensitive items to your mail carrier

It’s also important to ensure your mail is safe during vacations. Take the following precautions if you’ll be away, even for a short time.

Have the postal service stop and hold your mail until you return
Ask someone you trust to collect your mail daily

Smart911 allows residents to create a safety profile for their household. When a resident makes an emergency call, the safety profile is automatically displayed to the 911 dispatcher. This allows the dispatcher to send the right response teams to the right location with more background information than before.

Residents can choose what details they’d would like to include, such as:

Emergency contact information
Medical information, including mental health
Number of people and pets on the property
Location data
Two-way messaging from dispatchers to callers

All information is optional; the profiles can be updated or edited by the user at any time.
