Home landscaping can become an oasis of habitat, feeding and sheltering pollinators, birds and other wildlife. Design your outdoor spaces with habitat in mind, including:

  • Diverse plantings with a mix of wildflowers, shrubs and trees that are native to our region or resilient to our changing climate.
  • Host plants to feed caterpillars and other pollinators in their early life stages. These are an important food source for birds and wildlife.
  • Nectar sources that bloom across the growing season, offering energy and nutrients for adult pollinators and seeds or fruit for other wildlife.
  • Winter hideaways that shelter hibernating creatures.
  • Clean water sources to help animals cool down and stay clean.
  • Healthy soil to provide nutrients, water and structural support for plants.
  • Fewer chemicals – like pesticides, herbicides or fertilizer – that can harm animals and people.
  • Less Lawn for a Healthier Minnetonka
