The city has identified 10 bridges to be replaced in the Opus Area (near Highways 62 and 169). In March 2016 the city council approved a layout and initiated plans and specifications for the bridge replacements and a reversal of Red Circle Drive.

  • Bren Road has now reopened to traffic. 
  • Traffic flow will return to pre-construction conditions, Bren Road East will be a one-way road.
  • There are miscellaneous items left to complete such as retaining wall railings and some lighting.

Approximate project schedule

  • Phase I - 2020 - Replacement of three bridges and Red Circle Drive reversal
    • Spring 2021 –Construction Completed
  • Phase II - 2021 - Replacement of four additional bridges
    • Fall 2021 - Construction completed
    • Spring 2022 - Completing ornamental railing installation, and bridge staining and painting
  • Phase III - 2022-23 - Replacement of three bridges on Bren Road West and Bren Road East
    • March 7, 2022 - Minnetonka City Council awarded the project to the contractor.
      • Spring 2022 – Expected construction start dates, including road closure at bridges:
        • Bren Road West (between Green Oak Drive and Opus Parkway): May 16, 2022
        • Bren Road East (east of Green Oak Drive): June 6, 2022
      • Fall 2022 – Construction complete on first two bridges
      • Spring 2023 – Construct third and final bridge on Bren Road East
